404. Can NRI buy airline tickets in India with Indian Rupees?

Questions: Hello, I am NRI my wife is American, can I buy tickets from India for my family from India using NRO account. Also how much US$ can I carry from india. thks & rgds, nelson Answer: You can buy tickets in India with money from your NRO account. I guess your question probably refers to whether you can pay for airline tickets in Indian Rupees. You can do this. The only stipulation that I am aware of here is, that the flight must originate from India. For example, you could buy a ticket from Delhi to New York, or Delhi, New York and back to Delhi. However you cannot buy a ticket in India with Indian Rupees, for a flight that will originate from abroad. For example you cannot buy New York to Delhi tickets and expect to pay with Indian Rupees. Regards to your second question concerning foreign exchange. You can take to India foreign exchange without any limit. However, declaration of foreign exchange/currency is required to be made in the prescribed Currency Declaration Form in the following cases:- 1. Where the value of foreign currency notes exceeds US$ 5000/- or equivalent 2. Where the aggregate value of foreign exchange (in the form of currency notes, bank notes, traveler cheques etc.) exceeds US$ 10,000/- or its equivalent.
