495. NRIs PIOs & OCIs can continue to receive Indian pension abroad . . .
Questions: Hi, A person who obtained permanent resident card in USA and thinking of becoming a citizen, lose pension
from either state or central government of India?
Appreciate your response.
thanks.
Answer: Pension income is generally a earned benefit for service rendered over a period of time.
A person who is receiving a pension in India will continue to get their pension even if they move abroad and acquire foreign
citizenship.
Any person who has a pension income credited to their resident Indian bank account, should re-designate their bank account
to a NRO account. Their pension income can continue to be credit in their NRO account.
Pension income can also be repatriated abroad provided any tax owning is paid. Your bank should be able to help you with
repatriation.
