Q.1175 Updating passport number on OCI requirement . . .
Question: Hello,
My daughter is 20 years old and in 2017, had her passport changed from a "minor" status to an "adult" one. While she
was still holding the "minor" passport, she had the OCI card. Does she need to apply for a new OCI card since her
passport number has changed? Or does her OCI card still work?
Thanks,
Answer: Renewal of OCI is required each time a new passport is acquired up to the completion of 20 years. Once this
is done then OCI must be renewed once more when the OCI holder reaches age 50.
If you daughter has a new passport on reaching age 20 then she needs to apply for fresh OCI documents.
The requirement to get new passport numbers updated in OCI documents is no longer a mandatory requirement. Only
valid OCI booklet and foreign passport with at least six months remaining validity is required for entry into India.
