Q339. Do Indian authorities discriminate against police officers applying for OCI

Question: Dear Sir, May I take this opportunity to applaud you for your fantastic website for NRI’s. My question is – ‘I am a serving Police Officer in London. I’ve heard rumours that the Indian authorities actively discriminate against individuals in my profession. To date, to the best of my knowledge NONE of my colleagues have been issued OCI status. Are you aware of any policy, which is in existence that prevents Police Officers, gaining such? I recently applied for my OCI at HCI – London, to date the status is showing ‘Under Process’ Kind regards Harjeet S Binji

Answer: I am not aware of any such policy that specifically denies serving police officers from getting OCI. I personally doubt that there could be any truth in such rumors. It is best to ignore rumors as they only lead to frustration and misunderstanding amongst many people. The majority of times they are spread by disgruntled people with their own agenda to discredit the authorities. If you have recently applied for OCI and your application status is shown as ‘Under Process’ then you will eventually find out whether your application has been granted or denied as time goes by. Normally applications are denied due to lack of proof showing a applicants Indian origin. Hopefully your application will be successful if your documentation is complete.
