Q361. Apply for Aadhaar Card at Indian Consulates Abroad.
Question: Sir, can this Unique Identity number card be obtained by visiting any of the Indian Consulates in the United States?
Thanks.
Krishna (NRI, Indian Citizen)
Answer: Currently there are no provisions for non-residents to apply for Aadhaar card at Indian consulates abroad. Aadhaar card is for those people who reside in India. Even foreigners of Indian origin can apply for it if they reside in India. For example an OCI holder settled in India can apply for a Aadhaar card, but they must apply for it in India by visiting the authorized Aadhaar enrollment centers setup across India to accept Aadhaar applications. Aadhaar enrollment centers are have the facility to do an Iris scan and fingerprinting required to obtain Aadhaar card. Basically the steps are: 1. Fill an application form at the nearest Aadhaar enrollment center. 2. Provide required and acceptable supporting documents along with your application. 3. Go through Iris and Fingerprint scanning Aadhaar cards are mailed to your address in India. No provision to apply for or get these cards mailed to overseas addresses yet.
