Q407. How to get changes made to your Aadhaar Card . . . Surrender Aadhaar Card if not a resident of India

Question: Dear Sir, I have an Aadhar card but have recently acquired Australian Nationality and a OCI Card. I am not resident in India and was wondering if I need to update, reissue or surrender the Aadhar card based on my current status? Your advice will be appreciated Thanks and regards A Sinha

Answer: There are no provisions to request changes to Aadhaar documents from abroad as Aadhaar is only for Indian residents. Aadhaar is only meant for Indian residents regardless of citizenship status, it is for residents of India. While acquiring Australian citizenship does not effect your Aadhaar card, not being a resident of India does! As you are no longer resident in India, your Aadhaar document should be returned to UIDAI for cancellation.
