Question: Hi, I want to carry 40 inch television to India,Hyderabad. I am not sure whether there will be any customs on it. Could you please tell me whether there will be any custom on it. Thanks & Regards syed amjad ali

Answer: Currently there is no customs duty in India for those who take back a TV to India as long as the value of the Television is not more than Rupees 35,000. Update: Customs duty to be charged on TV imported as baggage to India As of August 26, 2013, the government of India has announced a restriction on duty free import of TVs from abroad regardless of the price of the television set. Under the new rules, those taking a Television set to India as part of their baggage will have to pay customs duty in India 35% plus a education cess charge of 3 %. This makes the effective rate of customs duty charged on TV sets to be 36.05 percent.
