Q524. Indian citizen born in Yemen, How can I get a birth certificate

Question: Hi Sir/Madam,

I am a software professional. I was born in Yemen Arab Republic on 19th July 1990 in an hospital in Sanaa. I am a citizen of

India by descent.

Both my father and mother are Indian citizens belonging to the state of Tamil Nadu.

My family moved to India two years after my birth, so i came to India in 1992 through my mothers passport as my travel

document.

Since the hospital where i was born did not formally give us a certificate for my birth, are there any possibilities for me to get

a birth certificate or a relevant document, given that i have my mother's travel document which holds my name on our return

to India.

It would be of great help if i get information on where should i start.

Answer: The current procedure in the Republic of Yemen is that a child born to Indian parents in Yemen, must be registered with the Indian Embassy in Yemen. Once such registration is done, I believe the Indian Embassy issues a birth certificate and if required, a separate passport for the new born child. In order to successfully register your child, parents must fill and submit a birth registration form, to see a sample of this form click HERE I don’t know what the rules were in 1990 when you were born. There is a possibility that some sort of information on your birth must have been provided to the Indian Embassy by your parents to get your name endorsed on your mother’s passport, so that you could travel to India. I can’t see the Indian Embassy officials including your name on your mother’s passport without some documentary proof of relationship, such as a birth record showing parents name. If you are unable to locate or information from the hospital where you were born, then perhaps the Indian Embassy in Sanaa, Yemen may be the place where some record might exist.
