Answer: Persons of Indian origin such as NRIs, OCI holders returning to India after a stay abroad of at least six months can take up to 1 kilogram of gold to India. Indian origin passengers who stay abroad for over a year, are allowed to bring free of duty gold in the form of jewelry. The duty free allowance currently is: • Rs 50,000 for male passengers • Rs 1 lakh for lady passengers Anyone taking gold to India in the form of solid gold, regardles of the amount of gold being carried.
