Question: Hello, Thanks for nice information about Taking a car to India by NRIs. I am using a car in UK, bought second hand for 2000£. I wish to bring it back to india. Could you please suggest how much will be the total expenses? I have a quote for shipping only of around 1000£. Need to know about custom and registration charges . Please do not hesitate to put approximate figures,as I just need your suggestion to check if it is really worth doing so. Thanks and Regards Chetan Bhagde
Answer: Information and detailed sample of customs duty calculation when taking a car to India from abroad is provided in FAQ # 1035. To calculate customs duty on a car substitute the figures as applicable to the car you intend to import to India. As for registration charges on cars in India, the cost would depend on the State in India where car will be registered.
