Q951. Indian Judicial Stamp Paper to execute Power of Attorney in UK

Question: Hi, Please can you let me know if Indian stamp paper is available in the UK for the purposes of executing a power of attorney?

Answer: Non-judicial stamp paper that is used in India to register documents etc. would not be available in UK. These days e-stamp papers are the preferred method as fake stamp papers were reported to be in circulation several years ago in India. Stamp paper is not mandatory for Power of Attorney document [POA] in UK. The POA document can be executed on a sheet of plain white paper, then attested at the Indian consulate prior to sending the POA document to India. POA once received in India should be registered and during the registration process the applicable stamps are purchased and applied.
