Q1221. Purchase property in India in wife's name from Saudi Arabia

Question: I am NRI in Ksa ,I want to know ,if I want to purchase property in my wife( house wife without job ) name in India by transaction through my NRE account , I want to pay tax?

Answer: If your question refers to whether you can purchase property in India in your wife's name and make the payment from your NRE account, the answer is yes. I don't quite understand what you mean by 'I want to pay tax' Under normal conditions, when buying property in India, everyone has to pay the registration fee etc. Those who buy properties using funds from their NRE accounts also have to pay property registration charges.
