Q1226. Status of Green Card holders - They are NRI’s
Question: What is the definition of an NRI? If you have a green card yet have business interests in India are you an NRI? Are green card holders eligible to buy agricultural land in India?

Answer: Green card holders are NRIs and cannot buy agricultural land in India. Having business interests in India does not help in anyway, in fact green card holders are liable to pay US taxes on their business income in the USA also.
