How to get a new gas connection in India online

To get a new gas connection in India for cooking gas is one of the concerns for many people in India. Cooking gas is called LPG which is short for Liquefied Petroleum Gas. To purchase cylinders of LPG a connection registration is required and not having their own gas connection leaves many people with no alternative to buy gas cylinders in the black market at almost double the actual cost of what they should normally be paying. Its not only the extra money involved but the added difficulty of not having a reliable source of an essential need for the require for their daily cooking.

How to get a new gas connection

1. Locate the nearest gas agency office that services your area. Every area has an agency designated as the supplier by the gas company. To find the appropriate one, simply check the local phone directory.
2. Fill in an application for a new gas connection. This application form will be available at the dealers in your area. Some documents are also required to prove your address and identity.

Documents required for a new gas connection

Proof of identity (any one)

• Passport
• Driving license
• PAN card
• Any photo identification issued by the State Government
• Aadhaar number allotment letter (Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), eventually for all residents.)

Proof of address (any one)

• Voters Identification Card
• Ration Card
• Electricity bill (not more than three months old)
• Telephone bill (not more than three months old)
• Employer's certificate
• Current rent receipt with a letter from the landlord certifying you as a tenant
• House registration papers
• Current house tax bill

A self-declaration attested by a Gazetted Officer may also be acceptable, however having proper documentation is helpful and will save time.

How to get a new gas connection online

You can select the company of your choice — I'm using HP Gas in this example. To apply online, log on to the HP login page by clicking HERE.

1. Create a login ID and password. Enter your email ID and select a password for this account. Don't use your actual email password here — use a different, randomly selected password and write it down so you remember it. Submit the form; an email will be sent to your email ID asking you to activate your new account.
2. Activate your account by clicking the activation link in the email.
3. Log in to apply for a new cooking gas connection.
4. Log in with your email ID and password to start the new connection application.
5. Select your State and the required information as shown on the form.
6. Click next, and you will be taken to the application form. The form is quite simple to fill — remember to select the location nearest to your residence. The form asks for:
   • Number and size of cylinders required
   • Documents to be submitted
   • Name of the consumer
   • Address and other details
7. After registration and document submission, you will be able to book gas online, or call/visit your distributor for refills of HP gas cylinders. A deposit is required for each cylinder and for a domestic pressure regulator.

Things to know

• A ration card is NOT mandatory to apply for a new gas connection in India.
• The documents normally required are one proof of address and one photo proof of identity.
• There is no requirement to purchase a stove or any other item from local distributors to get a gas connection. Many dealers will try to sell their stoves to new connection applicants — this is not a compulsory requirement.
