449. OCI holder from UK - Getting a drivers license in India
Questions: I am a British citizen with an OCI card. I have a UK driving licence. Our International Driving licence is valid only for 1
year and will expiry shortly. We have moved to India recently and need to get a driving licence for India. Can we get one?
Please advise.
Answer: Technically International driving licenses are meant for tourists visiting foreign countries for short durations. When living
in a foreign country as a full time resident, a local drivers license should be acquired, in many countries it is required by law.
If you are now living in India as an OCI holder, you should indeed apply for an Indian driving license.
