Q.1036 Transfer of OCI Visa to new passport not required now

Question: Dear Sir/Madam I had my OCI done when I was 60 years of age (date of birth May 1952), after two years my passport expired and I just had my new passport done. Now my question is do I need to transfer my OCI into new passport or is it okay to keep carry old passport with me when I am travelling? Thank you Indira Patel Answer: There is no compulsory requirement to transfer OCI to new passport. You can travel to India with your new passport and OCI booklet. Both [valid new passport + OCI booklet] are required. The expired passport with OCI stamp is no longer necessary. The requirement to carry your old passport showing the OCI ‘U’ visa was discontinued by the government of India as of January 29, 2015. Now OCI holders can simply carry their OCI booklet as proof of their OCI status. To view a copy of the letter sent by the ministry of home affairs regarding this click HERE.
