Immigrating abroad from India...
Immigrating abroad Is it the right choice for you?
Moving overseas many citizens of India think about. While those desiring to move abroad may have
their own reasons for wanting to immigrate to western countries. Let me list some common ones that
are frequently mentioned.
1.
Job opportunities are better abroad.
2.
Similar jobs pay a lot more in western countries than they do in India.
3.
Standard of living is higher abroad when compared with India.
4.
Education for children is better than India.
To settle abroad is a dream for a many Indian citizens. The wonderful life in the west where money is
freely available is a common myth that circulates in India.
Remember the time when conversations that went like. "even a mail man has a car in America..." Even today going abroad is
considered to be the fastest way to riches by many people in Asian countries.
As the saying goes, the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. Yes and sometimes it really is. To go overseas or not
depends on ones personal circumstances.
I will try and give you a realistic picture of what to expect if you decide to immigrate overseas. This website is not connected to any
immigration related service and the intention is to provide an unbiased opinion and let readers make their own decisions.
Potential immigrants during interviews with officials of foreign countries are probably nervous and so anxious to get their applications
for immigrant visas approved that they hesitate to ask questions, perhaps they feel that their questions may annoy the interviewer and
possibly result in rejection of their visa application.
Do your self and your family a favor, during your interview ask all the questions you may have to make an informed decision. If you
hear a doctor can make approximately $200,000 a year in the United States. If you are a doctor, do not jump to the conclusion that
you can expect to start earning such an amount also. You will need to meet the licensing requirements for USA before you can even
make your first dollar as a doctor there. We are now in the year 2016 and a large number of US residents still make between 30,000 to
45,000 per year.
ARE YOU A GOOD CANDIDATE TO IMMIGRATE?
There is no simple answer to this question and those desiring an immigrant visa need to answer this for themselves after carefully and
realistically checking facts.
POINTS TO CONSIDER BEFORE IMMIGRATION DECISION
While in the sixties thousands of Indian citizens many of them unskilled went to UK to settle. There was then a demand for labor in
Britain and India seemed the ideal place for them. Travel agents were helping people get passports and visas were being given easily
at that time. Air India was flying around the clock to meet the rush of immigrants going to Britain. However times have changed.
The demand for labor is no longer there. Unemployment is back in countries such as UK, Canada and the United States.
The jobs available today are for professionals. Unless you are a professional I would suggest you consider your priorities before
deciding to immigrate.
Professional jobs though available do have some ifs and buts that need to be overcome. Almost all western countries have their own
professional associations that you need to be a member before being allowed to work in your profession. Some times this is not easy
for many immigrants.
It is not uncommon for professionally qualified persons to get approved for an immigrant visa based on their professional qualifications
and then after immigrating overseas finding out that they cannot work in their own field unless they take additional courses, pass
exams and meet licensing requirements of their host country.
I am sure many potential immigrants if given factual and precise information before leaving good paying jobs and well settled lives
would think twice before accepting immigrant visas.
Many well qualified citizens of India are forced to work in fields they would not dream of working in their motherland. It is not
uncommon to see a doctor, lawyer or even an accountant driving taxis in the United States or Canada.
The point I am trying to make is that those seeking immigrant visas need to have a clear understanding of what lies ahead of them.
The governments of countries should notify prospective immigrants clearly that their professional qualifications would not be
recognized in the country they are moving to.
