POINTS TO CONSIDER BEFORE IMMIGRATION DECISION

While in the sixties thousands of Indian citizens many of them unskilled went to UK to settle. There was then a demand for labor in Britain and India seemed the ideal place for them. Travel agents were helping people get passports and visas were being given easily at that time. Air India was flying around the clock to meet the rush of immigrants going to Britain. However times have changed. The demand for labor is no longer there. Unemployment is back in countries such as UK, Canada and the United States. The jobs available today are for professionals. Unless you are a professional I would suggest you consider your priorities before deciding to immigrate. Professional jobs though available do have some ifs and buts that need to be overcome. Almost all western countries have their own professional associations that you need to be a member before being allowed to work in your profession. Some times this is not easy for many immigrants. It is not uncommon for professionally qualified persons to get approved for an immigrant visa based on their professional qualifications and then after immigrating overseas finding out that they cannot work in their own field unless they take additional courses, pass exams and meet licensing requirements of their host country. I am sure many potential immigrants if given factual and precise information before leaving good paying jobs and well settled lives would think twice before accepting immigrant visas. Many well qualified citizens of India are forced to work in fields they would not dream of working in their motherland. It is not uncommon to see a doctor, lawyer or even an accountant driving taxis in the United States or Canada. The point I am trying to make is that those seeking immigrant visas need to have a clear understanding of what lies ahead of them. The governments of countries should notify prospective immigrants clearly that their professional qualifications would not be recognized in the country they are moving to.
