185. Getting British Citizenship by naturalization
Q: My question is, I am here with my wife and my 2 kids aged 5 years and 6 years. We are going to get British Citizenship within 6 months
through naturalisation. I was thinking to settle down in India in future.. so is it possible that, I just register my kids as UK citizen and don't
take UK passport? or once I register them as UK citizen, I must apply for their UK passports? As I don't want my kids to be brought up over here
in the UK. What should I do?
Thanks.. Regards...

A. If you register your kids as UK citizens and don't take UK passport as you state in your email, How would you travel to
India?
Once you get naturalization certificate you are legally British citizens, whether you take a UK passport or not does not make a
difference. In reality a passport is just a travel identity document.
As far as my understanding of the law is, you cannot use your Indian passport to travel once you acquire foreign citizenship.
My suggestion to you would be to get UK passport, Surrender Indian passport, get OCI which is a lifelong visa for India and
then return to India for settlement. This way, in case your children or you ever decide after a few years to return to UK, you
will be able to do so.
