219. Register Scooty in India

Q: Dear sir, I am NRI holding British citizen and has OCI. I have been in India for six months and starting my own business now in India. I want to buy scooty however my RTO said that vehicle cannot be register on my name as he needs my election card which i obviously dont have as i am NRI. i would like to whether vehicle can be register on my name if i have address proof as my electricity or water bill because i own property. If you are legally residing in India you should be able to register your car, motor cycle or Scooty without having to show a election card which you legally cannot acquire. You may also consider getting help from the dealer you plan to buy your Scooty to register it. A similar question has already been answered on this website.
