275. Apply of OCI in India

Q: Dear Sir, I am a usa citizen. I wish to come to India and than apply for OCI. Can I do that? If yes If I get OCI from India can I stay for more than six months when I have come there on India Visa from USA? If yes what is the procedure that I must do? Whom should I Inform? Please guide me in detail. What is the normal time taken for granting OCI in India? Please guide me. What is the cost in India? Is there any agency who does this job on behalf of me Upadhyay A. For OCI applications that are filed in India, an amount of Rs.14,230/- has to be paid for each applicant by Demand Draft in favor of “Pay and Accounts Officer (Secretariat), Ministry of Home Affairs” payable at New Delhi. Time taken for grant of OCI can be as per government guidelines is said to be within 30 days of the application, if there is no adverse information available against the applicant. If any adverse information is available against the applicant, the decision to grant or otherwise is taken within 120 days. However don't expect to get OCI status within 30 days as several other factors such as volume of applications, mailing time etc. can cause delay. Applicants anywhere in India can file with Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) at the following address: Under Secretary (OCI), Foreigners Division, Ministry of Home Affairs, 26-Mansingh Road, Jaisalmer House, New Delhi-110011.
