287. Travel to India with your Old 'U' Visa on expired passport

Q: Hi I am planning to travel to India in aug. My OCI visa is stamped pn my current passport and I plan to renew my passport before travelling. Is the OCI still valid on the old passport. Is it sufficient for me to carry the old passport as a document for the OCI visa and present it with my Renewed Australian passport Regards Shantha A. Yes, you can travel to India without any problem as long as you take both, your new passport and also the old passport that has the OCI lifelong validity visa ('U' Visa) stamped on it. You must carry both passports with you. There have been cases where people have not taken their expired passport that has the original OCI U Visa stamp on it but have taken the OCI booklet as proof of their OCI status. This is not acceptable to the authorities and such persons can be denied entry.
