289. Validity of old 'PAN' Cards

Q: Hello Mr. Chand, I read some useful information from your website. I would like to know about the PAN card. Before acquiring the British citizenship, I had a PAN card. Could you please tell me whether this PAN card is still valid & can be used or Do I need to surrender this card & apply for a NRI PAN card? Regards, Kishor A. Your PAN card should still be valid. Those who have PAN cards issued prior to July 1, 2003 and want a new tamper proof PAN card are required to submit a new application on form 49A and return the old PAN card. The cost for this is Rs. 94/-. Having two PAN cards is illegal.
