516. Can fathers nativity certificate from India help son get OCI . . .
Questions: Dear Sir,
I note that you have a good note on the above subject. I have a question: My father was born in India. If he gets the nativity
certificate in his name, am I eligible for OCI?
Hitesh
Answer: If your father was born in India and can get a nativity
certificate to prove his Indian citizenship it would certainly help you
with your OCI application.
Being the son of a former Indian citizen would make you a person of
Indian origin.
While your father is in the process of getting a nativity certificate in
India, it would be prudent to get some documentation on your
grandparents also, they may also have had roots in India and can help
your application.
I am not sure what citizenship you currently hold, kindly note that in
case an applicant has ever been a citizen of Pakistan or Bangladesh,
they will not be eligible for OCI.
