Q551. Passport with OCI visa expired - When must OCI Visa be renewed . . .

Question: Sir, Please help me: My old Canadian passport expired. And I got a new Canadian passport now. OCI is stamped in my Old passport. [I have got my old passport with me, i opted to keep it with me] Do I need OCI stamped in my new passport too..? I have my registration booklet too Jo Thomas Answer: Whether you need to get OCI stamped on your new passport actually depends on your age! Those who are less than 20 years of age, must get fresh OCI documents every time they get a new passport. New OCI visa with new photo is issued for their new passports. Between the ages of 21 and 50, there is no mandatory requirement to get documents re-issued, when you get a new passport. In such cases, if you travel to India, you would have to carry your previous passport that has the OCI ‘U’ visa stamped on it, along with your new passport. In case someone between the ages 21 to 50 wishes to get fresh documents issued to them as a matter of convenience, they can do so on payment of the appropriate fee. Once you get new documents, then the requirement to carry your previous passport is not required as the OCI ‘U’ visa will be stamped on your new passport. After reaching age 50, fresh OCI documents are required again for the last time. After getting fresh OCI documents on reaching age 50, there are no further requirements to get OCI documents re-issued.
