Q632. How much gold can be taken to India without paying customs duty . . .
Question: Hai sir,
I am going to india this month last.pls kindly inform me how much gold carrying to india with out custom
babu k
Answer: Up to 1 Kg of gold can be taken to India by passengers as baggage. I believe passengers arriving in India cannot get
exemption from paying customs duty on gold brought into India in solid form. To claim duty free exemption for gold in India, the gold
must be taken to India as gold jewelry.
Currently the duty free exemption is allowed only if the passenger has lived abroad for a period of at least one year. The exemptions
are:
•
Male passenger: Duty free allowance gold jewelery value up to Rupees 50,000.
•
Female passenger: Duty free allowance gold jewelery value up to Rupees 100,000
