Q634. UK Born of Pakistani origin & never been to Pakistan Apply for PIO Card

Question: I am British born Indian holding OCI card along with my 2 children.

My wife is British born Pakistan origin who has NEVER been a citizen of Pakistan Would she be eligible for PIO card.

We have been married for 25 years and have a home in India hence the reason why she requires long visa.

As you can imagine I have been having major issues with HCI London who will not even reply to my emails.

I would be very great full if some one can assist me.

Kind Regards

Answer: Being of Pakistan origin is what effects eligibility for India’s PIO card. Even though your wife has never been to Pakistan, she may be ineligible to apply for a PIO card. My understanding of current rules is that if a person’s parents, grandparents or great grandparents have ever held citizenship of Pakistan, they cannot get PIO card. Other countries who’s citizens along with Pakistan on this list are, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Iran, Nepal and Sri Lanka.
