Hello, I am a US citizen and had issued a POA from here to my mom in India to purchase a flat for her to live. Now, I want to revoke. What is the process? Thank you! The procedure to revoke a Power of Attorney (POA) would actually depend on the type of POA given. Please refer to question/answer # 623 for more information on this topic. Generally the procedure to revoke a Power of Attorney in India is: Get document prepared to revoke the previously issued POA Get stamp of your local Indian consulate/embassy if abroad. Consulate will charge a small service fee for this purpose. Get revocation document registered in India, preferably at the same Sub-Registrar office where the original POA was registered. Send a notification to the person who was given the POA that is now being revoked, preferably by registered post. Publish a public notice in a newspaper which has reasonable circulation in the city where the original POA was issued. NRIs may opt to also to place a notice in a newspaper where they reside. A lawyer should be able to handle all this for a nominal fee.
