Q.929 Born in India to Nepali parents in 1989 can I get Indian

citizenship?

Question: Sir my father is a ex air force employee and i born in India (11 aug 89) also my schooling is done here can i get Indian citizen ship . my parents are basically from Nepal. nirmal BAHADUR Answer: Even though you were born in India, unfortunately you do not qualify for Indian citizenship under the current applicable rules which are show below. Any person born in India before July 1, 1987 is considered a citizen of India. However, since you were born in 1989, according to the rules, at least one of your parents must have been an Indian citizen at the time of your birth. Current rules that apply for Indian citizenship by birth: A person born in India on or after 26th January 1950 but before 1st July, 1987 is citizen of India by birth irrespective of the nationality of his parents. A person born in India on or after 1st July,1987 but before 3rd December, 2004 is considered citizen of India by birth if either of his parents is a citizen of India at the time of his birth. A person born in India on or after 3rd December, 2004 is considered citizen of India by birth if both the parents are citizens of India or one of the parents is a citizen of India and the other is not an illegal migrant at the time of his birth.
