Q.943 Repatriation of Pension Money from India

Question: Dear Sir/Madam, I am currently residing in Canada and have Canadian Citizenship. I am in receipt of pension from the Govt. I would like to repatriate the limited amount of money to my account in Canada. I have paid taxes every year in India on my pension and also it is subject to TDS. Please let me know the authorities in India to be contacted to transfer the money from India to Canada in Canadian dollars/US Dollars. Amount involved is less than Cdn $ 30,000. Thanking you ajay Answer: Contact the bank branch where your pension is deposited. Hopefully you have a NRO account where the pension is deposited. As you appear to have taxable income in India and pay taxes every year you need NRO account to repatriate pension. If you do not have a NRO account then you need to advise your bank about your Non-Resident status to close resident bank accounts and convert them to NRI accounts [such as NRO, NRE] Information on Repatriation of pension income in India has already been posted on NriInformation website, kindly use the search box on provided on each page to find articles/answers on repatriation of Indian pension.
