Question: Dear sir, How much Kg/ Amount of Gold can we carry from Dubai to India ? Regards Koshy Answer: Here is the latest on taking gold to India by passengers traveling to India from abroad. Duty Free Limits on Gold Jewelry: Duty free allowance on gold jewellery brought into India is applicable only to those Indian passengers who have been residing abroad for at least one year. The duty free limit for gold jewelry brought into India is: For female passengers, 40 grams, subject to the maximum value of Rupees 100,000 For male passengers, 20 grams, subject to the maximum value of Rupees 50,000 Maximum gold allowed in India by paying customs duty for passengers arriving in India. Up to one kilogram of gold can be brought in to India from abroad by passengers arriving in India provided they have stayed abroad for a continuous period of six months. [short visits of up to 30 days may be ignored in calculating the required 6 month period] Keep in mind that there is no duty free allowance on this 1 kg of gold and duty must be paid. The duty free allowance mentioned above is only on gold in the form of jewelry. The current rate of duty works out to 36.05% [do be aware that duties, taxes etc. can be changed at anytime by the authorities]
