Q.1006 Can Tibetan Refugee in India get OCI
Question: Namath Sir/mam,
I am tibetan refugee born in dehradun 1973, attended central school for
tibetan under the administration of central board of secondary
education,New delhi. Did my bachelor in chandigarh. Am I qualify to
apply OCI?

Answer: As per Indian Citizenship laws [Section 3] A person born in India
on or after 26th January 1950 but before 1st July, 1987 is citizen of India
by birth irrespective of the nationality of his parents.
If as you state in your email that you were born in Dehradun in 1973, then
you may already be entitled to Indian citizenship by birth.
Your best option would be to apply for Indian citizenship. OCI is not
possible for refugees from Tibet.
