Our view on this matter is and has always been that OCI - PIO should be treated at par with NRIs and therefore be given the same benefit of the grace period allowed to NRIs to deposit currency up to Rs. 25,000 until June 30, 2017. The letter drafted by GOPIO personnel asking for OCI - PIO to be allowed to deposit up to Rs. 250,000 in our opinion is not correct as it may wrongfully give the impression of asking for more favorable treatment. However, readers are free to make their own decisions Those who do sign the petition, also have an option to state their opinion on the column that says ‘I’m signing because . . . (optional)
