Aadhaar Card – Procedure

Steps involved to obtain Aadhaar: 1. Visit Aadhaar Enrollment Center – This can be any authorized center in India regardless of where a person may live. 2. Fill and submit the enrollment form and documents for proof of Address and Identity. [Form can either be downloaded from official Aadhaar website or is available free at enrollment centers. To view sample form click HERE Kindly be aware that form shown is for sample purposes only and can be changed by the concerned authorities at any time] OCI holders should be able to use their OCI Card [booklet] as proof of photo ID. In addition to this they will need to provide proof of address in India. [Aadhaar is currently for residents of India regardless of citizenship] 3. Enrollment center will record applicants biometric data [Photo, Finger prints & Iris] The process to get Aadhaar card is that once a person has submitted the Aadhaar enrollment application form, relevant ID proof documents and completed the biometrics part of the process. The Aadhaar authorities will check the application and if all is in order the application is approved. Once the enrollment is approved, an email is sent to the applicant notifying them of the approval. They can then use the link included in the approval notification email to access and print their Aadhaar number. Approximately four weeks following receipt of Aadhaar approval email, applicants receive their Aadhaar cards by post at the Indian address they quoted and supplied as proof of residence in their Aadhaar enrollment form.

Fee for Aadhaar

While there is no fee for Aadhaar many Aadhaar centers have started providing services such as laminated card etc. These are easier to find as many such offices are located in convenient areas, I can say that from experience as I visited one such place. The total time it took was about 30 minutes as one person was ahead of me. Total cost Rupees 150. I got my laminated Aadhaar Card from the center in a surprising 8 days after submitting the application.
