Q.1025 UK Resident wants certificate of overseas residence
Question: Dear Sir/ Mam.My Relative living at U K and He wants to apply Certificate of Overseas residence because he got pension there if He got Certificate of Overseas Residence then he can claim refund from their Pension. In previous year he spend 10 month in India. Please advise us how we will get certificate of overseas residence. which show his residency proof. and what document require for it.Please let us know if you have any questions.Regards,Gaurav Makkar.Answer: By reading your email I infer that a UK resident who spent 10 months of a taxation year in India wants to get a certificate of overseas residence, perhaps to show proof of his stay in India which will help him/her claim a pension refund in UK. There is no such certificate that I am aware of that is issued by Indian authorities that specifies that a foreign national has spent a certain amount of time in India. Residency certificates are issued to citizens [to avail benefits under DTAA]The only way a foreigner currently can show stay in India is by entry and exit stamps on their passports.
