Q.1062 Will Customs endorse gold Jewelry taken to India on my
passport to take back on our return journey?
Question: I know we have some existing question on FAQ here on jewellery taken over and above allowance.
In my case i'm planning to take gold bars, and have them made into ornaments - all for ourselves - and bring them all
back on our return journey.
Will i be able to have my passport endorsed and be able to show the same on our return journey back out from India.
Regards, Venkat
Answer: Probably NOT!
Gold bars cannot be taken to India without payment of customs duties and following the Indian customs rules and
regulations regarding import of gold.
A few years back I had posted a response to a question regarding taking Jewelry to India from abroad with the intention of
bringing it back on return. Kindly read the answer to question number 481 that mentions why endorsement of gold on
passport is problematic.
