Q.1065 Apply for OCI in India - Hold British Passport
Question: Dear Sir / Madam,
This is with regards to my OCI application that I wish to make from India.
I have recently moved to India with my husband. I applied for my first British passport from Mumbai and have just
received it last month. I now wish to apply for my OCI card.
I am writing to seek your guidance on the procedure involved. Also, would I need a temporary visa to be residing in India
while I apply for the OCI card and till I receive it? I have been trying to get help on this matter from various offices here but
without any success.
Your kind cooperation in this regard would be deeply appreciated.
Thanking You.
Answer: When you moved to India with your husband, what type of Indian visa did you get? How long is your visa still
valid to stay in India?
Generally those who wish to apply for OCI from within India should be present in India in a legal capacity with a valid visa
for three months. Contact the FRRO office applicable to your area of residence in India and they can provide you with
more information on applying for OCI. For a list of FRRO offices Click HERE
