Q.1099 Question regarding resident bank a/c owned by NRI & Aadhaar

Question: Thank you for your website - it is very informative, especially when one is trying to make sense of all the noise online. I have on clarification to your Q.900 No Aadhaar Card - USA NRI’s pension account blocked by bank. In the attached link http://www.pensionersportal.gov.in/procedures/Procedure11-f.asp it says " In case of the existing accounts, the pensioner should intimate the fact that he has become non-resident Indian, to the pension paying branch in India and on receipt of the same the paying branch in India should convert the account of the pensioner to Non-resident Ordinary (NRO) Account. Is there anyway to validate this? I have sent an email to uidai however, I don't really expect to hear back from them. Thank you again. Answer: The information on the link you mention states general information to guide NRIs. Banks should make the changes but will generally do so only after getting written notification from the account holder. I doubt if Indian banks will make any changes unless they receive written information from account holders. Banks may require proof of status change such as immigrant visa etc. A request letter to bank from the account holder to convert domestic account to non-resident account would also be required. The responsibility to notify the pension issuing authority of a change in the pension recipient’s address and residential status would also be that of the pensioner. UIDAI deals with Aadhaar card and not Pensions.
