Q.1179 PIO Card cancellation after divorce from Indian spouse
Question: Sir, we had given a letter to concerned authorities in the year 2014 a letter saying that our son in law who is
u.s.a. citizen is residing in the above address in order to get a PIO card for him.
Now the person is not our son in law following divorce. Now what is the procedure for cancellation of this address &PIO
status for him as he is neither a resident of india or our home.
PLEASE ADVICE US AS TO WHAT WE HAVE DO .THANKS
Answer: Foreigners who got PIO cards on the basis of the citizenship of their spouse are supposed to surrender their
PIO card in case of divorce from their Indian spouse.
You could notify the authorities that a divorce has occurred and PIO card would be canceled.
