Q.1240 Time to process OCI application in India & documents required

Question: Sirs, I am an NRI from USA and has come to India on a Visa. I would like to apply for OCI card now from within India. I have my India passport which was cancelled at the Indian Consulate office at San Francisco. Now, I have both the cancelled passport and the renunciation certificate with me along with the USA Passport. Will you please let me know as to what are the documents I am to submit along with my application and how much time it will take. I have the following document ready with me:- 1. Cancelled Indian Passport 2. Renunciation certificate from Indian Consulate at San Francisco, USA 3. USA Passport with 5 years visa. Thank you, Answer: Generally the documents required for OCI are: 1. Proof of present [foreign] citizenship. 2. Evidence of self or parents or grandparents Indian citizenship or their links to Indian citizenship so as to establish whether the applicant has a right to claim Indian origin. 3. Surrender/Renunciation certificate if you ever held an Indian passport. 4. Photo of applicant as per specifications 5. Applicable fee which is currently Rupees 15,000 in India You seem to have the necessary documents. Your foreign passport should suffice as proof of your foreign citizenship and you already have a Renunciation certificate.
