Q.1265 How long can OCI stay in India?
Question: Hi There
I am a New Zealand citizen currently living in Australia and OCI holder
I wish to look after my father in law for some time in India.
My question is how long I can stay in India in a single trip, if I needed to stay beyond 6 months, may I needed to inform
the local authorities, this means whome.
Please provide me the confirmation.
Thanks and Regards
Answer: OCI is a life-long visa for India and OCI holders are exempt from registration with local authorities regardless
of the lenght of stay in India. OCI holders in India should ensure that they valid foreign passport and their OCI booklet.
Both these documents must be in the possession of OCI holders when they are in India.
Some OCI holders are required to apply for re-issue of their OCI depending on their age. New OCI visa must be
obtained generally in the following circumstances:
1.
Each time a new passport is issued up to the completion of 20 years of age. OCI documents have to be re-issued
and payment of appropriate fee is required.
2.
Once an OCI holder reaches age 50, they must get their OCI registration certificate and visa re-issued.
If you have concerns and need confirmation, check with the Indian Embassy/Consulate in Australia or New Zealand,
whichever is convienient.
