Q651. Can UK Citizen inherit agricultural land in India . . .

Question: Hi,

I’m in the UK on Indian passport and planning to take British Citizenship soon. Could you please clarify the below?

If I take British Citizenship, will I be having right in the ancestral property (agricultural land)? (My grandfather has ancestral land

and he has given it my father)

regards,

Prasanth.

Answer: Taking British citizenship would not affect your right to inheritance of property located in India. If you inherit agricultural land in India, you can legally own it, even if what you inherit is agricultural land.
