Q653. Renewal of OCI is not mandatory for those who got OCI after age 50
Question: Madam/Sir
I got my OCI card in 2010 when I was 58 years old. Now I have renewed my US passport.
Do I need to get a new OCI card and have it transferred to my new passport or can I use my old OCI card and olde US
passport with the U visa?
The language in the OCI website is not very clear
Thanks in advance for your help
Answer: If you got your OCI documents issued to you when you were 58 years old, then it is not compulsory to have the OCI
Visa transfered to your new passport.
You can travel to India as long as you continue to carry your expired passport that has the original OCI U visa stamp AND your
new passport.
New rules require that you also have the OCI Registration booklet with you.
While it is not compulsory, some people do get the OCI visa transfered to their new passport to avoid carrying more than one
passport.
