Q659. OCI two days before age 50 - Do I need fresh OCI on passport renewal

Question: I was 2 days short of age 50 yrs when I got my OCI few years back. I understand that one has to re new OCI once after

age of 50 yrs when US passport is renewed. Is there any grace period of few days or a month allowed?

DOB Aug 8th 1958

OCI booklet and U visa issued: Aug 5 2008

Thanks you very much.

Answer: I have never seen a grace period mentioned for people in your situation, I’m sure there must be many others in the same situation as you, missing the target age 50 date by a few days! Your best bet would be to contact the Indian consulate for clarification. Although I don’t think you should take a verbal assurance, get some written response clarifying that you need not get fresh documents.
