Q676. Indian income tax clearance certificate requirement to migrate to USA

Question: Sir, I'm an Indian citizen. I'm migrating to USA with my family by the month of july'14. I'm still not sure whether I require an income tax clearance certificate from the Indian government. I've been told that I require. Please help. Thanks Hope S Answer: If you have been told that you require an income tax clearance certificate from the Indian government to be able to leave India, the best source to clarify this would be the income tax office in your area of residence in India. My understanding on this topic is that the requirement to provide a tax clearance certificate was abolished as of 1st January 2003. For reference purposes, a link to the notification is provided below: (ITCC Instruction No: 2, Date of Issue: 13/02/2003 F.No. 153/191/2002-TPL)
