NRI can verify mobile number from abroad without Aadhaar

The Department of Telecommunications (DOT) has announced a procedure to make it possible for NRIs abroad to verify their Indian mobile numbers even if they do not have Aadhaar. Following a directive from the DOT, your Indian mobile service provider should have a webpage on their websites for mobile number and Aadhaar verification for NRIs. Basically NRIs who are not present in India can use this facility to verify their mobile numbers even if they do not have an Aadhaar card. To use this facility NRIs will need to provide details of a trusted person in India who has an Aadhaar. This person will be the one who will act on their behalf. The procedure basically involves: Visiting the web-page of their mobile service provider Enter details as per form [such as phone number] Fill out declaration as applicable: o I am an Indian National, however currently an NRI. o I do not have an Aadhaar or my mobile number is not registered with UIDAI. o The documents uploaded by me are authentic and if found forged, actions as per the law of the land should be applicable to me After submitting details online, an 8-digit alphanumeric transaction ID will be displayed on the screen which will be valid for 48 hours. The subscriber needs to share this transaction ID with a trusted person whose mobile number is registered with Aadhaar. To complete the process, the trusted person selected by the NRI will have to enter the transaction ID and the NRI subscriber's phone number on Telecoms Service Providers portal. The copy of the Department of Telecommunications directive along with appropriate form’s etc. can be viewed by clicking HERE
