Question: Dear NRI info customer care,
I have OCI passport.I have indian driving licence (paper booklet) which
was issued before i moved out from India.
This licence js still valid, expiring in 2019.
My questions are
1) can i drive in India on this licence?
2) would i be able to renew tbis licence in India and get smart card
licence?
Thanks a lot

Answer: Yes! As long as your license is still valid and has not been cancelled, you should be able to drive in India. You can convert your paper booklet type driving license to the new smart card license. To do this you will have to apply at the Regional Transport Office (RTO) where your original license was issued from. The procedure to convert paper driving license to the new Indian smart card driving license is: 1. Fill the application form 2. Attach your valid paper license to the filled application form 3. Submit the application form 4. Pay the required fee 5. Have your biometric details, such as digital photo, thumb print etc. are recorded by RTO computer License is issued generally by mail to the address recorded on the driving license. Not sure which State in India your driving license has been issued in, now most Indian states have moved or are in the process of moving to the new smart card driving license. Rules can vary from state to state, check with the local RTO office for application form and required fee.
