277. Where to get OCI Application Form
Q: Dear Sir
Thank you for your email which has been very helpful. As you suggested I looked at the Indian High Commission website
but they seem to be asking for the surrender of Indian Passport.
I had surrendered my Indian Passport to the British Home Office in l968 and do not have a copy. I do have a letter from the
Home Office requiring me to surrender my Indian Passport which I hope the Indian High Commission will accept but I also
need an appropriate OCI application form .
As I live a long way from London I can deal with this matter only by post. I would be grateful if you could advise me how I
can get an application form.
Thank you very much for your help
Yours faithfully
Sunit Roy
A. Regarding your question as to how you can get an application form? When applying for OCI from abroad, There are two
parts of the application process, the first part is filling an online form. Once that first form is submitted online, you get
access to the second form which can be downloaded, filled and mailed out for processing of OCI card.
All applicants have to apply by online registration through Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India website, their
website address is http://mha.nic.in/uniquepage.asp?Id_Pk=553 or click HERE to go directly to the application form.
Once you are at the form you will find complete instructions on how to proceed. Basically this involves:
1.
Filling in the form (This is 'Part A' of the OCI Application)
2.
When filling the form, for Place of submission, those applying from UK for OCI must select one of the three from: UK-
London, UK-Edinburgh or UK-Birmingham
3.
Submit the form by clicking the 'Submit Button'
4.
Once form is submitted and there are no errors - You see a number assigned to your form and be able to download
the second part of the form that is 'Part B' of the application process.
5.
Print both 'Part A' and 'Part B' forms.
6.
Fill in 'Part B' and then mail both forms along with the required supporting documents to the appropriate office.
Whether the Indian High Commission will accept your letter regarding surrender of your passport, would depend on the
Consulate officer. Normally passports when surrendered are stamped canceled and returned to the passport holder. Good
luck with your application.
