473. Converting PIO to OCI . . .
Questions: Dear Sir
I am currently a British Citizen with OCI card. Obviously I was born and brought up in India and held Indian Citizenship. But
subsequent to work and years I had lived in the UK I got British nationality My wife too shares the same status as mine.
I have a daughter who is 4 and is a British national by birth. She currently has a PIO card. Is it possible to convert her PIO card to an
OCI card? If so what is the procedure?
I would appreciate your kindness if you could give me whatever useful information you may have.
Warm
RegardsSubbu
Answer: As you already have an OCI card and were a former Indian citizen, your daughter should not have a problem getting OCI
status. There is no procedure to convert PIO card to OCI. You should submit a new OCI application on behalf of your daughter.
The procedure would be similar to when you got your own OCI. In the case of PIO card holders the PIO card needs to be returned to
the Indian consulate when your OCI application is approved. You daughter’s PIO card would be canceled when she gets OCI
