Q563. Use Indian passport to travel after getting Naturalization in UK . . .
Question: Hi..
I just got approved for naturalisation, attending ceremony on 28th this month.
I would like to travel abroad with Indian passport before applying for british passport,, This is only for 3 weeks.
My Indian passport has Indefinite leave to remain..
Am I allowed to travel with Indian passport? and come back with my Indian passport..
I am planning to apply british passport after I come back from Dubai - after 3 weeks.
I really appreciate your thoughts on this...
Thank you so much in advance..
Best Regards,
Answer: You could use your Indian passport and perhaps no one will notice! but it would be illegal and if caught you could face
penalties. As per Indian law, Persons of Indian Origin who have acquired foreign Nationality are required to surrender their Indian
passports to the nearest Indian Mission/Post immediately after acquisition of foreign citizenship.
Furthermore, the date on your Naturalization Certificate is considered by the Indian authorities as the date you acquired foreign
citizenship, not the date when you get a British Passport issued. If caught traveling with a Indian passport after the date you are
Naturalized, will result in penalties.
