Q591. OCI holders can use their OCI registration booklet as proof of address
Question: Dear Sir, one of my friends mention this website for nri to me. I also have a question. I am OCI and in India for
everything I am asked to provide local Indian address with proof. I do not have Indian adress proof or any Indian driving license.
What is the best thing a OCI person can do to make life easier in India.
Satnam (UK OCI)
Answer: All OCI holders have a blue OCI booklet issued to them. This booklet is all the documentation you now need in India as
proof of address.
As per Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs Notification dated March 23, 2012.
“State Governments should ensure that the OCI registration booklets of OCIs are treated as their identification for any services
rendered to them. In case proof of residence is required, Overseas Citizens of India may give an affidavit attested by a notary
public stating that a particular/specific address may be treated as their place of residence in India, and may also in their affidavit
give their overseas residential address as well as e-mail address, if any.”
Reminder: OCIs in India are now required to take their registration booklet with them when they travel to India. Both your
passport where the U Visa stamp is and the OCI booklet are required by immigration when entering India.
